Featured Talks

The Winter Folklore Fayre will include a programme of talks exploring folklore, unusual history and the beliefs and traditions that have shaped our communities.

The Cambridge Historian will be presenting two talks during the day, each followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion. Expect the more unusual, forgotten and fascinating sides of local history, with topics being developed around local folklore, witches, battles and the stories that rarely make it into a typical history lesson.

We are also delighted to welcome Pete Jennings of Gruff Books, author and former President of The Pagan Federation.

Pete will be presenting a 45-minute talk on Anglo-Saxon Elves, based on the research behind his Aelphame Trilogy of books.

Pete will also be bringing Gruff Books to the gathering and offering rune readings during the day.

Further folklore-inspired experiences and programme announcements will be revealed as the gathering continues to unfold..

Why This Event Is Different

The Winter Folklore Fayre is a unique new folklore event for Cambridge and Cambridgeshire.

Rather than a traditional market or psychic fair, it has been created as a community gathering where folklore, history, seasonal traditions, artisan craft, divination and wellbeing sit alongside one another.

The aim is to make folklore, storytelling and the more unusual sides of history feel alive and accessible again — something to explore, talk about and experience together.

Whether you are fascinated by local legends, curious about old beliefs, interested in traditional divination, seeking unusual artisan gifts or simply looking for something a little different to do in Cambridgeshire, this gathering offers a day of discovery, curiosity and connection.
